I am BKay

TECHNOLOGY | ENTERTAINMENT | COMMUNITY DEV

My name is Bernard Kioko, also known as BKay. I am a software developer passionate about using technology to drive community development. I taught myself software development while I was a student at Starehe Boys Centre in Nairobi, Kenya.

I have had a successful career in technology, including developing the first version of the M-PESA API, which significantly improved the speed of MPESA paybill and till transactions. Additionally, I introduced SMS technology to television with KTN’s “The Big Question” and later on NTV, KBC, and other media companies in Kenya. I also created the first digital music distribution platform in Africa that could instantly produce CDs, known as myMusic.

I am also an accomplished music producer, owning studios that have produced hit songs for leading Kenyan artists such as Nameless, Nonini, Otille Brown, Nyashinski, SautiSol, PUnit and over 200 other artists.

As the Chairman of Intellectual Property Owners Association of Kenya, I want to remind you that as a software developer, it is very important to protect your ideas and intellectual property.
